Partnering with German energy company SonneNext, Joulen developed the AI-powered energy management system AI·leen designed to empower households to optimise their energy use and benefit from long-term cost savings. This collaboration showcased how complementary technical expertise can enhance the value of renewable energy investments and accelerate the clean energy revolution at the household level.

Project Girona set out to bring clean, lower-cost energy and energy flexibility as a service to 60 properties in Coleraine, Northern Ireland. The project demonstrated the transformative potential of Smart Local Energy Systems (SLES) to reduce emissions, optimise efficiencies, and generate cost savings across the community.

This pioneering project was designed to identify the benefits of optimising clean energy systems for a large, multi-site agricultural cooperative. Using Joulen’s PARIS smart software, the project revealed opportunities to maximise the value of the cooperative’s renewable investments, alongside improving long-term operational efficiencies and energy independence.

Smart Local Energy Systems (SLES) offer a transformative model to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon technologies at the local level. SLES connect local smart devices such as solar photovoltaics (PV) and battery storage with centralised data analysis to enhance flexibility, efficiency, and resilience in local systems. By optimising the value of renewable investments, these smart networks deliver substantial benefits for the environment, communities, and industries alike.

Businesses are increasingly adopting renewable energy and storage systems to power their operations and secure energy independence. This shift goes beyond carbon reduction — it's a strategic move that offers many advantages, including long-term cost savings and enhanced energy security.
